What can be more relaxing than walking along the lake side, enjoying all the small boats passing by, the sound of water lapping against the shore and watching all different kind of people strolling around on their day off… Arona is the perfect place to have these relaxing moments.
ARONA (Novara – Piemonte) is a place on the south of Lake Maggiore (Lago Maggiore) on the west side with almost 15000 residents. It has quite a big lake side and some nice shops as well. Besides, it has plenty of restaurants and bars to have an aperitivo or a cocktail at night. That makes it not only perfect for summer, you can enjoy this lovely place in winter as well.
Must say that during summer it can be pretty ‘busy’ in Arona. A few tourists (mainly German, French & Dutch) and quite some people from the surroundings and Milan. Especially if you compare it to Lake Orta (Lago d’Orta) for example. One tip: Close to the train station there are 2 big, free parking lots, so don’t pay for parking your car!
A bit more north, just outside the city center, you’ll find a giant bronze statue of 35,10 meters high called “Sancarlone” or Saint Charles Borromeo. The construction of this statue started in 1614 and was completed in 1698. Don’t miss it while visiting Arona!
From here you also have some amazing views over Lake Maggiore. The day I made these following photo’s there was a very, very strong wind. I love that you can see that in the pictures by looking at the water!
Later on I will post more about Arona to show/tell you what else you can do while visiting this nice place at Lake Maggiore!
