I discovered for the first time this year that autumn in Italy, or at least Piemonte, means not only mushroom hunting but also chestnut hunting!! It’s almost like a real happening here. Whole families go into the woods to find as much chestnuts as possible. So, of course, we did as well and found a bunch of them.
Lovely, small and big chestnuts. And they are de-li-cious!! We just put them in the oven (at 180°C) for 20 minutes and they’re ready to be eaten. Don’t forget to first make a small incision on each chestnut to prevent it from exploding. Really! We had one that exploded in the oven (what a mess to clean that up..sigh) because the incision wasn’t good enough. Oops! And one other thing, they will fill you up in no-time, so it might be better not to eat them right before dinner…
By the way, I just found out now that in Piemonte you can only take home a maximum of 2 kg per person. Thank god we were in two and we didn’t know that.
Well, happy chestnut hunting ánd eating! And hope the photo’s will get you in the mood:
