Sometimes it happens that you get last minute guests for dinner. It usually means that you don’t have too much time to spend in the kitchen, right? But still, you want to serve your guests something tasty. Then this two-ingredient Italian recipe is simply perfect to serve as a starter! These extraordinary simple but delicious Homemade Grissini are so good I don’t think you will ever want to have the store-bought ones again. Seriously. They are crispy and full of taste!
But, this recipe isn’t mine. The site Giallo Zafferano is a site I check often. It’s full of yummy Italian recipes. The original recipe is called Grissini Ritorti and after I tried it out I was convinced! Instead of making the bread dough (used in the original recipe) myself I used shortcrust pastry. And I used red pesto from Liguria. You can easily make it yourself but if you’re short of time then you can obviously buy it. Either way, it’s going to be worth to make these Grissini!
makes (more or less) 30
Shortcrust pastry (pasta brisée)
Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF
Place parchment paper on a baking tray.
Cover the shortcrust pastry with a thin layer of pesto. Now cut long and medium thin strips of the shortcrust pastry. Twist them and lay them on the baking tray. (It’s not a problem if their size isn’t the same!)
Bake for 20 minutes.
